This stone pays tribute to the mighty river near where many Amazonite resources are found in Brazil, though you actually won’t find it along its shores. Still, one can easily envision the Amazon and its natural blues, greens, tans and creams of its water and riverbed. It’s also found in India, Australia, Madagascar, Namibia and Russia. In the states, you can find it in Colorado; sometimes it is called Pike’s Peak Stone or Colorado Jade. It’s even found in my home state, Virginia! This serene stone is perfect for the summer months, which are waning, but it easily transcends into cooler seasons. Especially as I pair it with the warm, rich tones of antiqued bronze metals, though it is equally stunning set in silver. Amazonite is wearable by most because of the juxtaposition of warm and cool tones. Its powers are pervasive, its history is fascinating, old and diverse.
Jewelry made with this stone dates back to at least 4,000 years ago, possibly as far back as the 10th Century BC. It was prized by ancient Egyptians, Sumerians, and other civilizations of Mesopotamia. The seventh chapter of the Egyptian Book of the Dead was engraved on Amazonite and examples of it were found in King’s Tut’s Tomb (“born in Arizona, moved to Babylonia”). It also figures heavily in Pre-Columbian Art.
If you are in search of your true meaning, who you are and what makes you tick, wear or hold some Amazonite. It can help you connect with your core beliefs. Amazonite is closely associated with your Third Eye Chakra and brings on your powers of visualization, your dreams manifesting into reality. Because it is also linked to Nephrite and Jade, as in ancient times the two stones were often confused, it is sometimes referred to as Colorado Jade and thought to bring luck and good fortune. Wear it to Vegas and see yourself win big! Or watch yourself climb the Grand Canyon.
This blueish stone is closely associated with the Throat Chakra, as it will help you find your inner truth, your true self, and it will help you express your ideas thoughtfully and with integrity. It promotes courage too. If you have a big lecture or speech to deliver, whether it be to your co-workers, your students or your kids, don some Amazonite and you’ll be heard! It is also linked to the thyroid, located in your throat and incidentally, connected to the voice box. The thyroid gland is involved with metabolism, cell growth, digestion, and overall healthy functioning of the bodily systems. So this stone is believed to be a powerful healing aid after suffering trauma, its vibrations are thought to actually assist with cell repair and regeneration, stimulating healing and curing sickness.
It promotes courage. Amazon warriors reputedly adorned their breast shields with it. I am sure those fierce chicks could hardly call in sick. It also soothes the nervous system. That seems obvious, just looking at the cool, subtle tones is comforting and quieting. The yoga studio where I have studied and realized my yoga teaching dreams painted the Amazonite palette on their walls. Those colors were subtle ground for my achievements in gaining my certification, all while reeling from physical trauma and all its ensuing hardship.
On another personal note, it reminds me of the beach. I could walk along the edges and swim the shoreline of any beach for hours on end. I could sit under an umbrella and smell the sea air as I plunge into a classic novel for even longer. To me, there is nothing more healing than the sea water and air. All reminiscent of my dear Amazonite. Named for a river, yes, but you get my drift. (no pun intended)
